چکیده

در سالهای اخیر سلول های بنیادی نه فقط در بین محافل علمی و پزشکی بلکه در میان سیاستمداران، گروه های مذهبی و دانشمندان علم اخلاق نیز مورد توجه و علاقه شدید قرار گرفته است. در اینجا ما انواع مختلف سلولهای بنیادی را که توصیف شده اند و همچنین منشا آنها را در بافت های بالغ و جنینی و قدرت تمایز آنها در بدن موجود زنده و محیط کشت به اختصار بیان می کنیم. در اینجا تعدادی از کاربردهای درمانی اخیر سلولهای بنیادی را با شناسایی مشکلات و مسایل رویارو به هنگام انتقال از اصول مستند و اثبات شده در آزمایشگاه به کاربردهای عملی درمانی گسترده، بررسی می کنیم. علی رغم اینکه تعدادی از عوامل ژنتیکی و اپی ژنتیکی تعیین کننده خواص سلول های بنیادی شناسایی شده اند، با این وجود مطالب زیادی برای دانستن اینکه این عوامل چگونه با یکدیگر تعامل و واکنش دارند وجود دارد. آگاهی فزاینده ای نسبت به اهمیت عوامل محیطی در کنترل و تنظیم رفتار سلول های بنیادی به وجود آمده است و اینها از طریق ترسیم سلول های بنیادی در بدن موجود زنده و خلق دوباره آنها در محیط زندگی مصنوعی در آزمایشگاه در حال کشف شدن هستند. درمان های جدید که بر اساس پیوند سلول های بنیادی یا سلول های بنیادی درونی (درونزاد) انجام می گیرد در مراحل اولیه اند که زمینه های نوظهوری هستند. همچنین اکتشاف داروهای جدید بر اساس سلول های پرتوان خاص یک بیمار و سلول های بنیادی سرطان صورت می گیرد. چیزی که مطالعه سلول های بنیادی را اینقدر هیجان انگیز می کند قدرت فوق العاده بالقوه آنها برای سلامتی انسان و ایجاد فرصت هایی برای مطالعه و تحقیقات بینابینی است.
